Simplify Your Life

I saw a link to this article this morning on Twitter, and I just had to share it.  I don’t know about you, but I’ll take any advice I can get about how to simplify my life, and what I like about this list is that it’s super comprehensive, yet not overwhelming.  Yes, there’s 72 items on the list, but like the author writes, try focusing on just one of the items at a time.  Bookmark the article or save this post so that you can always come back to it when you need more ideas of ways to un-complicate your daily living.

Today I’m choosing to focus on this one:

  • Evaluate your time. How do you spend your day? What things do you do, from the time you wake up to the time you go to sleep? Make a list, and evaluate whether they’re in line with your priorities. If not, eliminate the things that aren’t, and focus on what’s important. Redesign your day.

This is a good one for me, because I tend to get bogged down by my massive, long-running to-do list.  I just keep adding things to the same list – work-related, personal, chores all get thrown on the same one and just looking at the notebook in which the list is contained gives me hives - and then I just get overwhelmed because it will never be “finished.”  By focusing on a few things each day that are in line with my priorities, and jotting those down on a post-it or something else that I can easily toss at the end of the day (rather than continually adding new things to the notebook of doom) I hope think I’ll be able to separate what’s really important from all the clutter that fills up my day. 

Another way to simplify your life?  Go into the gym with a plan of attack, so you don’t waste any time or energy wondering about what you should be doing when you’re there.  I can help you with that; I’ll see you later today with a great circuit-style workout that will have you out of the gym in less than 45 minutes!
